Participants will learn about the evolution of big data in the travel industry and why it is taking center stage. In the past, big data has been a very hyped buzzword and has not gained significant traction in the travel industry. Over the past year, there have been positive developments that will allow corporations, travel companies and suppliers to take advantage of big data.

This session will provide an understanding of:
   - What big data is
   - How it is different from traditional travel reporting and business intelligence
   - Options for taking advantage of new developments that make big data affordable, scalable and usable for almost any size of organization.

Brian Beard
General Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Travel and Transport

Brian Beard’s industry influence as a technology trendsetter spans over 20 years. His top leadership position includes Chief Information Officer at three of the world’s most well-known global corporations.

Brian entered the industry as an application developer and went on to advance his expertise to include: transaction processing, supply chain management, large project implementations, outsourcing, document management, data warehousing and business intelligence such as e-commerce, mobile and emerging technology.

For the last three years, Brian was the Technology Strategist for a primary IT supplier in the travel industry. Prior to this, he held executive technology leadership positions at a globally known car manufacturer as well as a leading energy company. He holds strong relationships with technology vendors such as Oracle, Microsoft, SUN, Cisco, IBM, Dell, EMC and many more. Currently, Brian is the General Manager of Strategic Initiatives for Travel and Transport.
